Prefacio - Letter From the Editor
Desde mi infancia, me atrajeron los trajes típicos. Pues en mi pais se acostumbra que el 12 de diciembre celebramos a la virgen de Guadalupe y el 15 de enero al senor de Esquipulas. En esos dias la costumbre es vestir a los niños con trajes regionales.

El mejor regalo de mis quince anos, fueron dos guipiles bordados a mano especialmente para mi. A la fecha, los conservo. Es allí donde empieza mi colección.
Entre los hijos que Dios me regalo, la ultima es mi princesita. Recuerdo que mi madre me trajo el primer vestido típico de Guatemala para ella cuando cumplió los 40 días. Y continuó trayéndome trajes regionales anualmente.
Para mi, los trajes se volvieron muy especiales. Representan: la tradition de mi pais natal; una union hacia mis connacionales; el amor de mi madre hacia mis hijos; el amor hacia mi;
y una conección con mis antepasados.
Since childhood, I was attracted to the traditional dresses of Guatemala. It is the custom to dress young children in their regional wardrobe to celebrate the Virgin Mary of Guadeloupe and the Black Christ of Esquipulas. These religious ceremonies take place December 12th and January 15th.
The most significant gifts from my 15th birthday were two hand embroidered guipiles (traditional tops), made especially for me. To this day, I hold them dear. This is where my collection began.
Of the children God has blessed me with, the youngest is my princess. I recall my mother bringing back my daughter's first traditional dress from Guatemala for her 40-day presentation.
This type of clothing became very special to me. It represents: the traditions of my country; a bond with my compatriots; the love my mother held for my children; the love I have cultivated for myself; and a connection with my ancestors.
